Although I am now primarily a wood turner, I have been a woodworker in one aspect or another for 15 years. I purchased my first wood lathe in 2000 and have been hooked on turning ever since. My work ranges from tiny segmented finger rings inspired by my beautiful wife, to a 20" bass drum for a full drum kit I turned in 2006. I have recently been collecting the tools necessary for ornamental turning, a decorative form of turning which reached its height in the 19th century. While many of my turnings are intended for display I have a great appreciation for the usefulness of wooden objects as well. I take great pleasure in using the many wood bowls I have turned for myself. I am constantly amazed by the beauty and durablity of wood as a medium and hope that I can pass this wonder to the those that own my work. Although I purchase some of the wood I use, the majority comes from urban sources such as trees removed from yards and public spaces and would normally be sent to the city dump or chipped for mulch. It is common here in San Antonio, espcially in some older neighborhoods, to find magnificent old Ash, Oak, Mesquite, and Sycamore trees. I am happy that some of these trees can have a second life in my turnings. I hope you will feel free to look at my gallery and works for sale. Please contact me if you have any questions. |
